Dear Rhythmic Gymnastics,
I miss you.
Although I’m getting older and significantly fatter… Please know that not a single day goes by without me thinking about picking up my favourite hoop or crazy clubs to prance on that soft comfy rgym mat again. Every now and then, I do my stretching and splits on my bed. I try to do my conditioning, but my muscles tell me to slow down because I’ve stopped for too way too long.
I probably won’t ever get a chance to slip into another leotard, so let me just say thank you. Thank you for giving me the best memories I’ve ever had in my ever so short-lived sporting career. I’ve made the best friends, had the strictest but loveliest coaches… and all these precious memories are mine to keep.
I hope I can strut in confidence and perform again someday. Even if it was just for one person, a performance is a performance. I’m looking forward then.
Really miss the top 3 rhythmic gymnasts of my time though - Alina Kabaeva (RUS), Irina Tchachina (RUS) and Anna Bessonova (UKR).
It feels so weird to see the younger generation wearing the leotards that the previous generation (the one I watched) wore before.
Anyhow, may the best gymnast win in the coming London Olympic Games!
